Discovery Days Schedule - June 9th & 10th

Wednesday, June 9th

The client and planning team will be moving throughout Homer for the day. The intent is to meet at various locations per the schedule below. We will discuss various topics at each site, and our goal will be to get input from those who can attend. We invite you to join us at any of the times and places below. This is a day for learning and listening, and we need to hear your thoughts on the opportunities and challenges for this project.
  • 9:00-9:30am: Baycrest/Homer Overlook Rest Stop
    • Discussion will include how this is a primary gateway for coming into town, and how it needs to act to direct people to desired destinations.
  • 9:45-10:15am: Airport
    • Discussion will include how this is a primary gateway for coming into town, and how it needs to act to direct people to desired destinations. 
  • 10:30-11:15pm: Homer Boathouse
    • We will discuss the Ferry Terminal as a primary gateway for coming into town, and how it needs to act to direct people to desired destinations. We will discuss the Spit and its harbor facilities for how they are a destinations themselves, and how this area can also act as a gateway to encourage people to go to other destinations in Homer.
  • 11:15 to 1:00pm: Break and Lunch
  • 1:00-1:15pm Pioneer Street (Meet at City Hall)
    • Discussion will include how the Central Business District is a key destination for people to come to, and to find their way around. We will discuss how this area can also act as a gateway to encourage people to go to other destinations in Homer.We will discuss how Streetscape improvements would help to make a pedestrian friendly environment, and also create a more cohesive district.
  • 1:15-2:15pm: Central Business District Walk (City Hall to Main Street)
  • 2:15-3:30: Break
  • 3:30-4:00pm Getting Cars from the Sterling to Homer Destinations, and Old Town (Chamber of Commerce)
    • Discussion will include how vehicles can be encouraged to turn off the Sterling in order to go to the Central Business District and Old Town, in addition to the Spit.
  • 4:30 to 6:00pm: Bishop’s Beach Pop-up
    • This will be an open discussion where we hope that people will stop by to chat with us about the project. Again, we need to hear your thoughts on the opportunities and challenges for this project.

Thursday, June 10th

  • 10:00-1100am: Streetscape Drop-In (City Hall - Council Chambers)
    • This session will be specific to discussion about Streetscapes. This will include maintenance, design, plantings, furniture, and all of the items that make for a successful Streetscape.
  • 11:30-2:30pm: Drop-In Work Session (City Hall - Council Chambers)
    • Similar to the Bishop's Beach Pop-up, the intent for this is that the team will be at a location where you can stop by to chat with us about the project.
  • 6:00-7:30pm Online Open House
    • Location: Zoom Meeting - *this is the Zoom link*
    • IMPORTANT: Please come back to this page to link to the meeting. This is to ensure that the link is correct and up to date.
    • Intent: To share the information that has been gathered, and to gain information from those who may not have been able to meet in person around the town
